West Bengal Self Help Group Scheme (SHG) – 700 Crore for 50 Lakh Rural Women
West Bengal Self Help Group Scheme – The State Government of West Bengal is going to launch a new scheme of about Rs. 700 crores in order to bring around 50 lakh rural women under (SHG) West Bengal Self Help Group Scheme. Under this scheme, the state government will provide training and loans to all the women who are living in villages (rural areas). The main motive of the state government behind launching this scheme is to make the women self-reliant and independent.

West Bengal Self Help Group Scheme – 3 Phases
The West Bengal Government will implement this scheme in 3 phases mentioned below-
- Identification & Training (1st Phase) – In the first phase of the scheme, the WB Government will do the identification of the rural women who are not covered under SHG scheme. After that, the state government will provide Skill Development training and the entire cost of it will also be borne by the state co-operation department.
- Loans to Rural Women (2nd Phase) – In the second phase, the state government will provide loans to women in villages. Besides this, the state government will provide interest subsidy on loans from different cooperative banks and cooperative societies.
- Promotion & Marketing of SHG Products (3rd Phase) – The third and final phase of this scheme will include promotion and marketing of the products of these SHGs. For this purpose, the state government will open SHG outlets and will also create a network of other state government departments such as agriculture marketing, food & supplies and small & medium industries department.
So far, there are around 2 lakh active Self Help Group in West Bengal and about 50 lakh women are associated with it. The state government will increase this number to 1 crore with the inclusion of 50 lakh more women. The state government will complete this project of opening 2 lakh more SHG in Bengal in the FY 2018-19.
