Telangana Free Health Insurance Scheme – Rs.5 Lakh Insurance for Farmers
Telangana Free Health Insurance Scheme – The Telangana Government has come up with the Telangana Free Health Insurance Scheme for the people of the state. Under this scheme, the state government will provide insurance coverage of Rs 5 lakh to about 58 lakh farmers of the State, be it accidental or natural death. The Telangana Government in coordination with Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), will launch the novel scheme on August 15.

The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Telangana Mr. K Chandrashekhar Rao on Friday announced that the Telangana Government will bear the whole premium cost for all farmers which will be paid on August 1 every year. Besides this, the state government will also distribute the insurance policy certificates to farmers on August 15 for the current fiscal.
CM Rao said that about 93 percent farmers of the State are marginal and small farmers. Out of which about 18 lakh farmers have less than one-acre land and do not have any other source of income. In case of their death, their family members fall into financial crisis. The state government’s effort is only to eliminate their trouble.
In order to ensure that this health insurance scheme is being implemented in a smooth manner and instill confidence among farmers, CM chose the State-run LIC over other private insurance companies for the implementation of the scheme. Apart from thism the LIC will pay a total amount of Rs.5 Lakh on the cause of death of a farmer within 10 days of the submission of the death certificate.
Telangana Free Health Insurance Scheme – Eligibility Criteria
Only those farmers who are permanant resident of Telangana are eligible for the scheme.
Farmers’ age must between 18 and 59 years as on August 15, 2018
The insurance cover will be provided up to the age of 60 years as per the existing norms.
Note – The date of birth recorded on the Aadhaar card will be considered as the bonafide date of birth of beneficiary.
For the insurance claim, all the eligible farmers must give the name of their nominees to the local agricultural official concerned. On this basis, the insurance will be paid in case of the policy holder’s death.
