The Tamil Nadu Government has come up with a new scheme for the students of the state. The name of this scheme is Tamil Nadu Free Laptop Scheme 2019. Under this scheme, the state government has decided to distribute free laptops to a total number of 15 Lakh meritorious students of the state. Through these laptops, the students will be motivated towards digital India program. The TN Government is going to distribute 15 Lakh free laptops to students in order to encourage them towards studies.

The Computer Making Company, Lenovo, has acquired a major contract from the Tamil Nadu government. According to the contract, the company will distribute free laptops to 15 lakh students of the state. According to the news, Electronic Corporation of Tamilnadu (ELCOT) has chosen Lenovo to supply laptops. The ELCOT Procurement Agency is operated under the IT department of Tamil Nadu Government. A senior ELCOT official said, “We have not yet decided the price of the order, 15 lakh laptops are to be distributed for 2018-19.

The Government has taken this decision to increase the skills of students studying in government, government-assisted schools and colleges. In 2011, the then Chief Minister Jayalalitha had announced this scheme. This is one of the AIDMK’s election promises. In 2015-16, the Tamil Nadu government had distributed 5.19 lakh laptops. Apart from this, the state government also distributed a total number of 5.58 lakh free laptops to the meritorious students in the year 2016-17. The Tamil Nadu, assembly elections will be held in 2020. AIDM is in power. Palani swami is the chief minister. The Tamil Nadu Free Laptop Scheme 2019 is being linked to the upcoming assembly elections.
