Smart Ration Card Scheme – The Punjab Food Supplies Minister Mr. Bharat Bhushan Ashu launched the statewide distribution of foodgrains under Smart Ration Card Scheme through e-PoS (electronic point of sale) machines for ensuring the foolproof transparency and efficiency in the distribution of food grains. It was launched at a state-level function organized at Kisan Vikas Chamber, SAS Nagar.

During the launching program, Minister said that the biometric-supported electronic system would eliminate the anomalies of the conventional public distribution system and end the probability of ghost beneficiaries. He also said that the state government has started a regime of total transparency in Public Distribution System.
Apart from this, Minister Bhushan also provided cheques of enhanced honorarium to the Fair Price Shop (FPS) owners for fulfilling their long-standing demand. Minister also gave information that the state government has hiked the margin money/commission of wheat distribution FPS owners from existing Rs 25 to Rs 50 per quintal whereby a payment of Rs 40 crore would be made to the 16000 FPS owners in the state. Also, the Minister stated that all the other demands raised by FPS owners were also being considered.
Repeating the state government’s firm commitment to provide the benefit of government schemes to every citizen of the state, the minister pointed out that shifting to Aadhar-linked identification and electronic distribution coupled with end-to-end computerisation would revolutionise the system of distribution of food grains throughout the state.
The MP (Member of Parliament ) of Gurdaspur Mr. Sunil Jakhar stated that the supply of sugar, tea leaves and pulses at subsidised rates would be soon implemented which would be a major price check mechanism. Besides this, he also said that the increment in honorarium and wheat distribution through e-POS technology was another ambitious step towards streamlining the distribution system.
