Punjab Government has promised to give free smartphones to the students of the state. Now, the state government is going to complete its promise. For this, the state government has started the preparation for implementing Free Smartphone Scheme 2019. During the Punjab Government Cabinet Meeting on Wednesday, the framework for smartphone distribution scheme was approved. In the first phase, smartphones will be distributed to graduate students of government schools, colleges and technical institutions.

For availing the benefits of this free smartphone scheme, all the interested students will have to give self-declaration that they do not already have a mobile phone. The first batch of the phone is expected to be distributed in March this year.

It is worth mentioning that in the financial year 2017-18, the scheme for giving free mobile phone to the youth was announced by the Punjab Government. The main motive of the Punjab Government behind launching this scheme is to provide education to the youth of the state, access to their employment opportunities and provide citizen-centric services through government applications.

12 GB Data With 600 Minute Local Call1

These free smartphones will have Full Touch Screen, Camera and Social Networking Applications. There will be one time limit of 12 GB internet data and 600 local minutes Talktime. The seller who will supply smartphones under the scheme will be selected by the transparent bidding process. The tender has already been issued by Punjab Information and Communication Technology Corporation in this regard. The seller will be selected within two months.
