Puducherry Housing Scheme 2018 – The Puducherry Government is going to a new housing scheme 2018 for the poor people of the state. This scheme will be of Rs 172 crore. It is the first time in the state in which such a huge amount has been sanctioned by Centre for the housing scheme.

Under this scheme, the state government will ensure that all the people who belong to economically weaker sections (EWS) category of the society and are deprived of basic housing facilities will now be given their own houses. The Union Territory Government will implement this Housing Scheme with a total expense of Rs. 172 crore which will be given by the central government.
The Central Government has sanctioned this amount in order to ensure its target of providing “Housing For All by 2022”.
Minister of Health and Tourism Malladi Krishna Rao said that the state government is consistently making efforts were made to provide grants to the housing board to meet its financial commitments, but claimed the territorial Lt Governor Kiran Bedi did not clear the file sent to her in this connection.
Puducherry Govt. Reduces Property Tax
MLAs (Members of Legislative Assembly) of the Union Territory had made a plea for reviewing the tax structure. Thus, the UT government replies that the property tax will be reduced by 25 percent. Apart from this, the Welfare Minister M Kandasamy also informs that the state government has also banned plastic products below 50 microns.
Now, the government will focus on increasing the utilization of alternative materials which are degradable. The Self Help Groups (SHGs) will produce these kinds of materials in order to make UT plastic free.
