Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) – The Economics Affairs Cabinet Committee has come up with Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved the continuation of Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) till the year 2020. This approval has been given under the 12th Five Year Plan for a time period of 2017-18 to 2019-20. For the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana, the Central Government has sanctioned a total amount of Rs. 14,832 crores.

The main motive of the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana is to ensure affordable and reliable healthcare services to the people throughout the nation. Besides this, the central government also emphasizes on providing adequate services for high-level medical education, nursing education and research facilities throughout the country.
The Central Government’s ambitious scheme ‘Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY)’ was launched in 2003. The main motto of this scheme was to correct regional imbalances in the availability of affordable/ reliable tertiary healthcare services and also to augment facilities for quality medical education in the country.

(i) Setting up of AIIMS like Institutions
(ii) Upgradation of Government Medical College Institutions.
