Pradhan Mantri Gram Parivahan Yojana -The Central Government of India is going to launch a new scheme for providing a financial assistance in the form of an interest-free loan to the women self-help groups in rural areas on the purchase of small commercial vehicles, to boost public transport and generate employment.
This upcoming scheme may be called ‘Pradhan Mantri Gram Parivahan Yojana’ and the scheme is expected to be launched on 15 August on the occasion of ‘Independence Day’. It will be on the lines of the ongoing rural roads scheme, ‘Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana‘.
Narender Singh Tomar, the Union Rural Development Minister informed that this scheme will be a revolutionary step as it will not only improve the public transport system in rural areas but will also generate enough employment options, especially for women.
Aims of Pradhan Mantri Gram Parivahan Yojana
IIn these areas, roads have already been built. The main motto of the scheme is to bridge the gap between villages and cities by providing more and easily available modes of public transport.
As per the ministry officials, this scheme will be implemented in 250 blocks across the country in the beginning. The Central Government will provide interest-free loan on at least 1,500 commercial vehicles with a seating capacity of 10 each. A limit of Rs 6 lakh on the loan amount will be set and the repayment period will be of about six months.
According to sources, an individual may earn up to Rs 6,000-9,000 per month after loan installment is paid.
As per its conclusion, it would be beneficial to provide 10-12 seater commercial vehicles at subsidized rates on a stretch of 20-22 km which connects at least 10-14 small villages.
As per the 2011 Census reports, about 33% of Indians still travel on foot and do not utilize motorized transport, and the majority of the remaining populace either use two-wheelers or any other unsafe mode of transport.
