Poushtikaharam-Memu Saitam Scheme – The Krishna District Officials have launched a new scheme for pregnant and lactating women and children of the district. The name of this scheme of ‘Poushtikaharam-Memu Saitam Scheme (PMSS)’. This scheme has been launched for the pregnant and lactating women and children enrolled in the Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) to lower down the infant mortality during deliveries. Poushtikaharam-Memu Saitam Scheme Objectives
The main motive of the government behind launching this scheme is to increase hemoglobin levels among pregnant and lactating women and decrease malnourishment in children.
Details of Poushtikaharam-Memu Saitam Scheme
Under this scheme, the government will distribute pearl millet (sajja) laddus for women and sesame (nuvvula) laddus for children below five years, for six months, in all the AWCs in the district. These Millet laddus provide proteins, carbohydrates, iron and calcium and help bring down child mortality.
How it Poushtikaharam-Memu Saitam Scheme Will Work?
The Anganwadi Centers staff will make door-to-door visits in the district for the enrollment of pregnant and lactating mothers and children and provide the laddus in all the 3,812 centers in the district.
Poushtikaharam-Memu Saitam Scheme Funding
As per the information provided by the officials of the district, about Rs. 25 lakh per month is being spent for the scheme. For this scheme, a few organizations have donated Rs.14.5 lakh and more donations are being made for the scheme.
The Poushtikaharam-Memu Saitam Scheme (PMSS) has been already launched in the State recently and millet laddus are being given to only identified mothers and children of the state. But in the Krishna district, millet and sesame laddus are being distributed among about 48,000 mothers and 8,000 children enrolled in Anganwadi Centres.
