PMAY: Govt. Approved Million Houses for Poor in 7 States with Rajasthan
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY): Union Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Minister. M. Venkaiah Naidu today said that PM Narender Modi has allowed to built 12 Lakh 83 Thousand 616 affordable housing in urban areas across the country. While previous UPA Government had approved 12 Lakh 40 Thousand 968 affordable housing in the period of 2005 to 2014.
Naidu told a press conference that the government believes in work. The government is working with positive thinking, even by some persistent barriers. He said that for the construction of one lakh 97 thousand and 402 affordable housing under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, 7309 crore investment has been approved in the meeting. These houses will be constructed in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Meghalaya.
He said the Modi government has approved more affordable housing during the last two and a half years than the tenure of 10-year of the UPA government .The Central minister said that the government has allowed the construction of 12 lakh 83 thousand 616 affordable housing in 32 states and union territories. For these, a total of 70 thousand 145 crores has been invested. He informed that Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Daman & Diu and Nagar have not sent their application.
Naidu informed that for the urban poor, shortage of housing is 25 percent in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, but governments have not sent any proposal for affordable housing. He said that people in Uttar Pradesh 8409 people and in Delhi 92 people have been helped to create affordable housing under PM Housing Scheme.
He said that if the governments of both two states will register together for affordable housing then ministry will quickly act on them. He said that a total amount of Rs.32 thousand 717 crores was allocated by UPA Government to make affordable housing, while the Modi Government has released Rs 70 thousand 145 crores till now. The UPA government had included only 939 cities, while Modi Government plans to include 4041 cities and towns.
The Central Minister said that the government has changed the entire process of providing housing for all by the year 2019. According to this, the schemes are made at local and state level and central government issues amount for it. Also for the next three years, has been decided to approve the housing schemes. He informed that Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and West Bengal are performing better under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
