National Health Protection Scheme – The Finance Minister of India Mr. Arun Jaitley has announced the Union Budget 2018-19. under this budget, Minister Jaitley announced the launch of a new flagship National Healthcare Protection Scheme for providing a health coverage to the underprivileged families.
National Health Protection Scheme
The main motive of the government behind introducing this scheme is to provide a health coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh per family every year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization. Besides this, this scheme will also cover 10 crore families, benefitting more than 50 crore people.
Under this scheme, the central government will establish about 1.5 lakh health centres to “bring healthcare closer to home”. These centres will provide healthcare support for non-communicable diseases, maternal and childcare services, along with free drugs and diagnosis. The finance minister set aside Rs 1,200 crore for the same.

Apart from this, a total amount of Rs 600 crore will be sanctioned for providing nutritional support for tuberculosis patients.
