Mukhyamantri Swastha Bima Yojana Uttar Pradesh
As the assembly election are getting closer, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav is going to launch Mukhyamantri Swastha Bima Yojana across the state. The draft note which is prepared by the State Agency for Comprehensive Health Insurance (SACHI) is likely be tabled before the state cabinet on Thursday.
The scheme provides for a coverage of Rs 30,000 per year to the beneficiary for health needs. It would cover 75 lakh families in four categories-construction workers, artisans engaged in Firozabad Glass work, all contractual staff in the health sector and home guards.
The facilities could be accessed from 800 private and 700 government hospitals by the policyholder for over 1,600 medical needs requiring hospitalization such as childbirth, gall bladder stone operation and so on.
A Senior Citizen Health Insurance Scheme has been also drafted by SACHI which will provide similar benefits to senior citizens.
This scheme rests on the existing model of Rashtriya Swastha Bima Yojana which extends health benefits to one crore families in the categories of, ‘below poverty line residents’, ‘labors enrolled with the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme’, ‘swachhkar community’ and ‘rickshaw pullers’.
SACHI’s Chief Executive Alok Mitra said that the MSBY is a state-funded initiative which extends the ambit of the RSBY. He also added that the two schemes together covers over 8.75 crore people in UP which mean almost 45% of state’s entire population. The scheme will have long term implications as the demographic dividend will eventually grayHe informed that families with elderly would get a separate cover of Rs 30,000 per person.
