Kozhikode Mayor Distributes Assistance to Beneficiaries of PM Awas Yojana
Kozhikode Municipal Corporation Mayor Thottathil Raveendran said that the beneficiaries of various housing schemes should not make any alterations in the approved building plan during construction as it will create a problem for disbursement of financial aid under the housing scheme.
On Monday, Mayor Raveendran addressed the gathering after inaugurating the distribution of the first installment of Rs 30,000 paid to each beneficiary under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY) at a function held at Town Hall. He said that making alterations in the approved building plan will result in non-payment of the aid as the government is sanctioning fund on the basis of the building plan approved by the corporation.
He said that the scheme was launched using the corporation’s own fund and the Union government is expected to make its allocation soon.

Under the scheme, a total number of 1,783 beneficiaries, who have own land and residents of the corporation and an annual income of below Rs 3 lakh, will be provided Rs 3 lakh aid for the construction of 60-m square house. The beneficiaries will not able to sell the house for seven years. The civic body has already made arrangements to prepare the plan of houses at low cost.
A meeting held between the mayor and licensed building surveyors had agreed to draw plans of houses at a minimal rate.
The scheme in the corporation will be carried out at a cost of Rs 53.49 crore. Of this, the Union government will allocate 26.75 crores, Rs 8.92 crore each will be the contributions of the state government, the corporation, and beneficiaries.
The deputy manager of PM Awas Yojana Mr.P Biju said that the civic body would hold a loan mela to ensure that beneficiaries of the housing scheme get loan.
Deputy mayor Meera Darshak presided over the function. Former mayor A K Premajam was the chief guest.
