Kerala State Government to Continue Karunya Health Scheme
On Monday, Kerala Finance Minister Mr. T M Thomas Issac informed the assembly that the government has no plans to abandon Karunya Health Scheme, conceived and implemented by the previous UDF government.
He said in reply to a submission moved by Mons Joseph that the government has already made it clear several times that all health schemes would continue.
Issac said that the agitations were being held only because of some misunderstanding. The budget allotment of Rs 250 crore for Karunya fund this year has already been released, he added.
Noting that a financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh was being given to patients as per the scheme, Issac said that the government was thinking of a comprehensive scheme for covering all treatment costs.
He also said that the dues of about Rs 25 crore for private hospitals with regard to Karunya fund have been released.
With regard to government hospitals, he said that the failure to account for funds spent by public hospitals under Karunya scheme was an issue. Issac added that the government has started to sort out the issues.
