Kerala Sarathi Scheme – Unified Licence Scheme For New Smart Licence Cards
Kerala Sarathi Scheme – The State Government of Kerala is going to launch the Sarathi scheme for unifying the licensing throughout the country by 31 December 2018. Earlier, this scheme was launched by the Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways. This scheme will end the malpractices and reduce the rush at the Transport authorities.
Kerala Sarathi Scheme
The Department of Motor Vehicles has already initiated the project on a pilot basis at its 3 centers in the state. In today’s scenario, the Kerala Government is having difficulty to verify the authenticity of the laminated paper licences which are being issued in the state. Through this scheme, the government will issue new smart card driving licences which will be more durable and unique.
Currently, there are about 1.5 crore driving licence holders in the state and the department issues around 6 to 8 lakh new licenses every year.
Kerala Sarathi Scheme for Unified Licensing
The main motive of the state government behind launching this scheme is to issue smart card driving licences to drivers. There will be various security features including QR code and hologram in these new smart cards. Kerala’s each of the district office issues about 40,000 licenses (on an average) every year. Now all the new applicants who will apply for the license would be given these smart cards with more security features.
Through this scheme, the government wants to bring uniformity in the design of licence issued throughout the state. For this purpose, the state government is planning a centralized printing system to ensure the uniformity in the design of the licences. The state government will soon finalize the design of the new licence.
