Kerala Life Mission Affordable Housing Scheme – The Kerala Government has made an announcement of constructing more than 5.13 lakh affordable housing units under the state government’s Affordable Housing Scheme (Kerala Life Mission)/Kerala Life Mission Affordable Housing Scheme. According to the state government, these housing units will be provided to the homeless and needy people for free of cost. The state government also stated that each house constructed under the scheme will measure over 500 square meter in dimension. It will be constructed with a total investment of Rs 4 lakh for each affordable home.

The word ‘LIFE’ stands for Livelihood inclusion and Financial Inclusion. The Kerala Cabinet committee has given its approval for the proposal of construction of over 5,13,000 housing units for homeless people. For the allotment of these housing units, the state government will invite the online application forms for this Housing Scheme through the official website lifemission.lsgkerala.gov.in
The Kerala Government has proposed Rs. 2500 crore for this Life Mission Housing Scheme in Kerala Budget 2018-19. Besides this, the new decisions of cabinet committee meeting held on 27 February 2018 will also add the additional burden of Rs. 459 crore on the state government.
Kerala Life Mission Affordable Housing Scheme – Cabinet Orders
Under the state government’s this new Life Mission – Housing Scheme, the total cost of the 500 sq. ft house is Rs. 4 Lakh out of which Central govt. will provide Rs. 1.5 lakh, State government’s contribution will remain Rs. 50,000 and Local Govt. share is Rs. 2 Lakh. In this order, the applicants will not have to pay any amount for new house.

Kerala Life Mission Affordable Housing Scheme – Beneficiaries Government List
The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Kerala Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan is personally monitoring this Housing Scheme. According to the life mission kerala government list, the state government has identified over 5,13,000 beneficiaries. In the first phase, the state government will construct about 1,76,000 housing units in the financial year 2018-19. Out of these, govt. will finish the construction work of around 66,750 houses till March 2018.
These beneficiaries includes 75,065 from scheduled castes (SC), 14,085 from scheduled tribes (ST) and 6,000 are fisher-folk. This Housing project is a part of Larger Mission LIFE.
