The Gujarat Government has doubled the compensation amount of Gujarat Farmers Accidental Insurance Scheme (गुजरात किसान दुर्घटना बीमा योजना). Now, the state government will provide Rs. 2 Lakh instead of 1 Lakh in the event of death of the insured person and Rs. 1 Lakh instead of Rs. 50 thousand in the case of injured due to accident.
The State Government has also decided to include the sons and daughters of the 7325559 registered farmers under this scheme. By this, now the total number of insured people under the Kisan Durghatna Bima Yojana has become 2 Core 49 lakh. Apart from this, the insurance premium given by the government will also increase from 30 to 35 crores to 70 to 80 crores.

Gujarat Farmers Accident Insurance Scheme – Revised Eligibility Criteria
The Gujarat Government had implemented this scheme in January 1996. The scheme was first implemented in January 1996 and then the amount to be given for death and wounded was Rs 20,000 and Rs 10 thousand respectively. The State Government will bear the premium of Rs. 70 crore for the insurance scheme.
Here is the eligibility criteria for the Gujarat Farmers Accidental Insurance Scheme –
- The primary requirement to become eligible for compensation is that the beneficiary must be a farmer
- The applicant must have land records before the start policy (31st March) in order to prove that he / she is a land owner.
- The death, accident or injury must be caused by an accident. For this, a post mortem report is mandatory.
- The incidents of natural and suicidal death are excluded and in such cases, farmers are not eligible for any compensation.
Presently, the cases of accidental deaths and permanent disability caused while working on the field, electrocution, animal bites, accidents involving machines, falling in wells, road accidents while travelling to market yards are also covered under this Durghatna Bima Yojana.
