Free Wifi on 100 Railway Stations soon
A good news for railway passengers – Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has announced high-speed WiFi broadband services to be made available at selected 100 stations by December end on this Friday.
On seminar Prabhu also said – “RailTel in partnership with Google is implementing the high-speed WiFi broadband services. And this service has already been provided at 50 stations and will complete the target of 100 stations by December 2016,” Prabhu said at a seminar held here.
Here’s a state-wise list of first 100 Railway Stations to get Google high-speed WiFi to the end of december:

- Delhi Junction
- Hazrat Nizamuddin
- Bibi Nagar
- Jammu Tawi
- Mumbai Central
- Mumbai CST
- Bandra – Mumbai
- Lokmanya Tilak – Mumbai
- Chennai Central
- Chennai Egmore
- Tambaram – Chennai
- Agra Cantt.
- Howarah – Kolkata
- Sealdah- Kolkata
- New Jalpaiguri
This could be a new year gift to all the railway passengers who seek Internet for work.
It should be mentioned these are the following stations that already have Free Wifi on 100 Railway Stations
On wifi launch Railway PSU (Public Sector Undertaking) RailTel, plays a crucial role in providing digital connectivity through optical fibre. Prabhu included “RailTel’s PAN India optic fibre network is providing connectivity to more than four thousand stations in the country,” .
Why is the need of Free Wifi on 100 Railway Stations
Prabhu also pointed out that the “technology changes very fast and becomes obsolete” in due course and hence it is “necessary to keep pace with the latest changes and modification in the existing tech .. Highlighting the need to connect rural India, Prabhu said: “It is a huge challenge to reach out to all villages which we need to focus on.”
