Chhattisgarh Sanchar Kranti Yojana – The Chhattisgarh Government has taken an ambitious decision for the transgenders of the state. The State Government will provide benefits of Sanchar Kranti Yojana to the third gender. It means that now the third gender people of the state will also be eligible to get free smartphones under a the Sanchar Kranti Yojana launched by the Chhattisgarh government.

The State Government has launched a Free Smartphone Scheme 2018 named Sanchar Kranti Yojana (SKY). For the distribution of these free smartphones, the state government has also started a campaign at the district and block levels.
Apart from this, the state government will provide free smartphones to a total number of 460,000 students of various colleges throughout the state. 40 Lakh women living in the rural areas and around 500,000 families living below the poverty line in urban areas. Besides this, now the state government has also made the people belonging to the third gender eligible for the scheme.
The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Dr. Raman Singh announced: “People belonging to third gender will also be eligible for the SKY.” He added “When the government is taking care of every section of the society, why the third gender shall be deprived,”
As per the Chhattisgarh Social welfare department, there are less than 5000 transgender in the state. However, the number is expected to increase, as many belonging to the section have not yet come forward.
Under the Chhattisgarh Sanchar Kranti Yojana, the state government has set a target of providing 50 Lakh Free smartphones across the state. For this, the state government has proposed a budgetary outlay of Rs 5.2 billion for the scheme in the 2018-19.
