The Central Government is going to provide a total number of 1,500 electric buses to the State Government of Andhra Pradesh under phase-1. The government will provide these electric buses as part of introducing energy efficient vehicles. Besides this, the Managing Director of Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) (Union Ministry of Power) Mr. Saurabh Kumar said that the EE vehicles were ready for delivery to different cities in the state.
Director Saurabh Kumar said after entering into an agreement with AP on EE Buildings at the Secretariat that the utmost priority would be given to AP for arranging around 1,500 energy efficient electric vehicles in the cities of Tirupati, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam in the first phase.
He also informed that, the vehicles were ready for delivery and likely to be started in the cities soon. He further stated that in order to operate the energy efficient electric vehicles successfully, all the arrangements are being made for establishing charging stations.
Apart from this, the APSRTC has already planned to start e-mini buses on Tirumala ghat road. Besides this, it also held tests with the electric buses during the last September and wrote to the Centre for the supply of the e-buses. Also, the plan for the starting of e-buses in Vijayawada has been made. The RTC officials examined the e-buses introduced in Himachal Pradesh for the first time in the country.
The State Government of Andhra Pradesh has also written to the Central government requesting to hike the subsidy for the e-buses. The Central Government is providing only Rs. 85 Lakh where the cost of each e-bus is around Rs 3 crores.
