Center Launched Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAYG) in Nagaland

Yesterday (2 Feb), Minister for Rural Development & REPA C.L. John. launched Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G) in Nagaland. During the launching program of the scheme, the Minister called for effective implementation of the program for the benefit of the rural populace.

He said with a view to address the gap in rural housing and to fulfill the government’s commitment to providing housing for all by 2020, PMAY-G program was launched by Union Government with effect from April 1, 2016, across the country.

This program is not a new one but a makeover of IAY housing scheme which is being implemented for quite some time.

The minister directed the officers to educate the VDBs for optimal and successful implementation of PMAY-G in the state. He said that under PMAY-G with an enhanced allocation of Rs. 1,30,000 for hilly areas along with additional Rs. 13,000 to be provided for construction of toilets under Swachh Bharat Mission and beneficiary to be provided daily wages of up to 90 to 95 days (Rs. 18,000) through MGNREGA totaling Rs. 1, 60,000 for a state like Nagaland.

Minister urged that proper care has to be taken by the department to see that all the components are meaningfully availed and judiciously utilized for the benefit of the people. The minister informed that rural development has always been the priority both for the Government of India and the state government to alleviate poverty in the rural areas and improve the living standard of the rural people.

He reiterated that housing being a basic human want and necessity, special focus and attention have been given by launching dedicated scheme specifically for providing houses in rural areas by the successive government. He said, therefore, be our collective drive to ensure that the PMAY-G scheme is effectively implemented and maximum benefits derived from it.

Minister said that the state government has also come up with a 2030 Vision Document by incorporating all spheres of development. He also said that towards this direction, he urge the officers to make full use of the various programs being implemented by the department so that our people are developed at par with town dwellers.

He added that the constant engagement and coordination among different stakeholders of rural development is a must to bring rapid tangible development.

Minister appealed to all the officers to deliver prompt and responsive public service to the best of their abilities. He urged that together let them strive to bring about realistic transformation in the lives of our rural people.

Earlier, the keynote address was delivered by rural development secretary Kelei Zeliang. The function was chaired by rural development director Metsubo Jamir while rural development joint director Imnukshila Jamir proposed the vote of thanks.
