Swahid Kushal Konwar Sarbajanin Briddha Pension Achoni / Assam Old Age Pension Scheme for Senior Citizens – The State Government of Assam has launched an ambitious pension scheme for the senior citizens of the state. Under this scheme, the state government will entail an annual expenditure of Rs 400 crore. The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal launched the Assam Old Age Pension Scheme “Swahid Kushal Konwar Sarbajanin Briddha Pension Achoni”, coinciding with the 149th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Assam Old Age Pension Scheme for Senior Citizens
During the launching program of the scheme, CM Sarbananda Sonowal said that showing respect to senior citizens of the society is our custom and tradition. Therefore, the state government has in its own way decided to lend dignity to the lives of all the senior citizens of the state and endeavored to provide financial assistance.
Under this scheme, the state government will give pension to all the senior citizens having age over 60 years. The state government will provide pension benefits to all the eligible senior citizens through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to their bank accounts. This Old Age Pension Scheme is one of its kind in the country as the Assam government designed it from its own resources with an annual financial involvement of Rs 400 crore. This scheme will provide benefits to all senior citizens irrespective of their financial and societal affiliations.
During the launching program, CM distributed the benefits of the scheme through DBT to a total number of two lakh eligible beneficiaries. Apart from this, Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that 15,000-20,000 people in every constituency will get a pension from the scheme as the payment will be made on the first day of every month to the respective accounts from the state treasury.
