The main motive of the state government behind launching this scheme is to pave the way to generate sustainable livelihood among women in rural areas by forming 1 lakh SHGs covering about 10 lakh families of the state.
Under this scheme, the state government will provide a one-time financial assistance of Rs 25,000 as revolving fund to each newly-formed SHG of non-intensive blocks and Rs 10,000 as an additional revolving fund to each woman SHG already registered under Deen Dayal Antyodhana Yojana of National Rural Livelihood Mission and who had received Rs 15,000 under the scheme earlier.
CM Sonowal said “Nari shakti is maha shakti.” He said that the state government will implement the schemes for women empowerment. The state government is committed towards women protection. He said that at the government’s request, Gauhati High Court has agreed to set up fast-track courts in all the districts of Assam to try rapists and murderers. I hope that the women benefiting from the scheme would encourage others. Loans will be provided by banks to the SHGs.”
Previously rural development minister Naba Kumar Doley said that the government had launched several schemes at the initiative of the chief minister for development of women and children. Without the development of villages, the economy of the state will not develop. In the light of the recent incidents of violence on women, we have set up a helpline for women. A scheme for the differently-abled has also been launched under the Deen Dayal Divyang scheme by which an amount of Rs 1,000 per month will be paid to the differently-abled people of the state as a pension.”
