Amendments in Nanda Gaura Yojana – All students who applied for the benefit of the Nanda Gaura Yojana being operated for the empowerment of girls are not able to get it. On passing the intermediate under the scheme, a scholarship of Rs 51 thousand was given to the girl students, but now only those students are being given scholarships, who are getting admission in the Degree or Diploma Courses after the intermediate.
Two Schemes Were Merged
In order to motivate the girls to empower them for education, two separate schemes were being run by the Department of Social Welfare and Child Development. Nanda Devi Yojna and Gaura Devi Kanya Dhan Yojana was being run by the Department of Social Welfare and the Child Development Department respectively. Last year, the state government had merged both the Nanda-Gaura Yojana. Under the scheme, arrangements have been made to give Rs 51 thousand for girl students on Passing Intermediate.
1500 Students’ Applications Rejected Under Nanda Gaura Yojana
Under the Nanda-Gaura Yojana, about 2,500 students who passed 12th class in the year 2017 sent applications to the Child Development Department. Of these, only one thousand girl students were given a sum of 51 thousand rupees under the scheme. These were the students who continued their studies even after the 12th class. However, about one and a half thousand students who left studies after the 12th were excluded from the plan.
Amendments Made in Rules of Nanda Gaura Yojana
According to the officials of the Child Development Department, now the benefit of the scheme will be available only to those students who will continue their studies after the 12th standard. They have to present proof of this too. At the same time, the amount of 51 thousand rupees received after the 12th will also be given in five installments by not giving one lump sum. The first installment of which will be given at the time of the birth of the child, after the second PCT class, the third eighth, the fourth high school and the fifth intermediate.
