Aajeevika Grameen Express Yojana – The Central Government has launched a new scheme named ‘Aajeevika Grameen Express Yojana (AGEY)’ to provide a better transport service in the rural areas.. However, this scheme is a part of Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM). Under this scheme, the government will provide transport service in the backward areas which will be operated by the Self Help Groups.
Objective of Aajeevika Grameen Express Yojana
The government has introduced this scheme with an objective to provide better transport service in the rural areas which will be safe, affordable and community monitered transport service. This service will help to connect one village to remote villages. The people will be able to access all the other aminities like markets, schools and helth centers. This service will help in the development of the backword areas.
In order to implement this scheme the Community Based Organization (CBOs) is also providing Community Investment Fund (CIF). It will be used for supporting the SHG members in this new livelihoods initiative.
Under this scheme, the SHG member will also eligible to get an interest free loan up to Rs. 6.50 lakh for purchasing vehicle. This loan will be provided by the Community Based Organization. However, the vehicle will be on the name of CBO and it will be given to the SHG member on lease to operate and the member will have to pay lease rental to the CBO.
In the first phase of the scheme, this scheme will be implemented in the 250 Blocks across the country on the pilot basis. According to the scheme, about 6 vehicles will be provided in each block which will be operated by the SHG member. Currently, this scheme has been approved for implementation in 52 blocks in the 8 states.

The government has estimated an investment of Rs.16.06 Crore under this scheme. Off this about Rs.10.16 Crore will be provided by the Cenrtal Government while remaining amount will be provided by the selected states.
The blocks will be selected by the states where the scheme is being implemented. This scheme will provide transportation service in the backward areas and it will guide in the selection of the blocks and routs.
The State Rural Livelihood Misson (SRLMs) will indentify the routs, members and the capicity of the vehicles which will be operated on the basis of feasibility study and traffic survey. Besides, it will also support by the technically sound organizations alongh with the expertise in transport network planning. In this scheme, the SHG member can purchase e-riksha, 3 wheeler or 4 wheeler within a cost selling of Rs.6.50 lakh.
